Knitting the Gospel

February 6, 2012

S. Bond is doing well. Last week she was still recovering and trying to do too much and then burn herself out quickly. But we've resolved to be more realistic and optimistic.

Knitting, the whole family it doing it!!!!!!!!! I never imagined I'd have to learn how to knit on my  mission. but I do. A less active that we were asked to go see, Billy Ann Hutchins, is a knitter and a family history genius. In our first contact with her we spent 40 minutes talking about family history and knitting. And we asked if she could teach us how to knit and we could get to know her better and then knit lap blankets and prayer shawls for the hospital as service together. She was super excited to teach us, and super excited to have us in her home. We've had one lesson and knits and pearls are something both me and S. Bond need to practice so we can knit and talk about the gospel at the same time. BUT because we have the basics down from the first lesson, we have found several potential investigators because of knitting! One is Kim Fuller. She's the wife of a less active the bishop is working with. We went and saw her the other day and mentioned we were learning to knit to do service. She invited us over to knit and talk about religion. She has gospel questions she wants answered. And before we left she was the one that asked if we could all pray together. She's so full of potential and the Lord has been preparing her! And to think, this all happened because of knitting. . . and better than that, it happened because a member of the ward asked us to go meet Billy Ann and get to know her. Cool huh?!
