Me and Sister Korman were at a member's home for supper two Sundays ago. There were three of the four priests there and we were able to answer their questions about missionary work. They were totally floored when we told them seminary is pretty much a necessity to helping us be prepared (none attend regularly). At the lesson we asked if there was anyone that we could go sing carols to and deliver a DVD, either Mr. Krueger's Christmas, or Joy to the World. After the mother and father consulted one another they gave us two of their friends to visit. We visited Pam two days later. We knocked on the door, and before we could start singing she had opened the door and ushered us in. She gathered all the children from her home daycare around and then let us sing. She was in tears. She kept saying over and over again to the children they were happy tears. :) We offered her the DVD and she graciously accepted. After a moment she mentioned how this was the hardest week for her and she was soooo glad we showed up. It was exactly what she needed. We asked if there was anything we could do for her and she didn't miss a beat when she said, "can you come read from the Book of Mormon with me?" We set up a time that works for both of us, and we began teaching her the Gospel. All because a member wanted to give a Christmas gift to her friend.
Another time this week, we went to see a less-active member who has agoraphobia. We talked with her and made mention of how to follow the Gospel more closely. She got pretty excited and now is trying to get her patriarchal blessing. We saw her again this past Sunday and her granddaughter was there. As we talked with her granddaughter, she wants to be baptized and follow Christ's example. So now we are teaching her as well!
We've been working closely with the Bishop (who's blind!! how cool is that?!) and he gave us a list of names to go visit and try to re-activate. We have over 100 names!!! So slowly we are getting the background stories to everyone and trying to help out those that are here come back to church.
On Sunday, yesterday, I gave a talk!! It was probably the best talk I've ever given!!! It was soooooooooo good. Not to brag, but the spirit was a fan of what I was saying and helped me portray the message Christ wanted me to share. Most of the members in the congregation were in tears... just sayin'. God had a good message for me to share yesterday. AND all I did was share stories of the missionary work I've seen done by members in the ward here, and in other areas. I think it's pumping up the members to want to do missionary work now!!!
