Samoans . . . Like an Elder Made It Up

June 4, 2012

So funny story: Me and sis. Robbins and a woman from our ward, Sis. Clark were all in a car on our way back from an appointment. All of us are in our early twenties and pretty cute. We are stopped behind a few cars at a red light and are next to a run-down, punked-out, in-need-of-a-paint-job car with two college age boys in it. They are blasting music out their open windows and trying to talk to us and get our attention even though our windows are up. Then they start revving their engine. haha, we of course notice them even before this but now we are paying more attention to them because the light it still very red and they are being silly at this point. Especially because there's two sister missionaries who are very unavailable, and sis. Clark is married with an adorable child. So we aren't the best choice to try and impress. Then they peel out, and run into the car that is stopped only a few feet in front of them. They hadn't even looked at the light or in front of their car. HAHahaha oh dear, those poor boys, and the poor car in front of them! We shouldn't have laughed, but it was too funny to see! oh, sadly, it made our day.

Miracle!!
We're teaching a woman named Pauline. She's from Lyberia and loves to sing. So we're having the lesson and the spirit smacks my heart and says to sing a song. Now I'm not the first person to volunteer for a solo, so I volunteered us all to sing together and we sang a few hymns. The spirit came into the room so fast and so strong! She was very happy. She hadn't come to church because she didn't feel comfortable coming, but after singing together she said she'd come. And yesterday she was in Sacrament meeting and she was singing her heart out! It was AMAZING!

This week we had a mission tradition... called somoans. I don't know how they got started or if that's how you spell it. But in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission these are mandatory to try. The elders in our district were astonished that we had never tried one on our own. Once we reminded them that we are sisters and have real cooking skills and can make good food they demanded we try a somoan. They are also very very very unhealthy. The ingredients are a package of chicken ramen noodles, 1-2 eggs, two peices of toast, barbeque sauce, cheese, and a hamburger patty or chicken patty or bacon. I had hamburger. yeah... sounds gross... like an elder made it up... anyways... you boil the ramen noodles whole for only 20 seconds or so. then you transfer it to a fry pan and pour half of the scrambled egg on the top, let it cook a bit, flip it over, pour the rest of the egg on it let it cook. Open the noodles up and put in your meat and cheese. Fold the noodles closed over the meat and flip to ensure cheese is melted. Remove from pan and place on a prepared piece of toast. Slather with BBQ sauce and place remaining peice of toast on top. CRAZY! Yes, it's a lot of food. Yes, I did manage to eat it all. Yes, it was tasty. and No, I will not eat another by choice :) haha, I've been told the bacon one is better... and use syrup instead of bbq sauce...
